Who doesn’t love a story about drag queens saving a local business? Charlie Price inherits his family’s nearly-bankrupt shoe factory in Northampton, while his snobby fiancée just wants to move to London and escape the perils of small-town life. When Charlie meets Lola, a feisty and vivacious drag queen, at a nightclub in the city, he has an idea: What if the factory entered a niche market? Fast forward to Lola and her entourage visiting Price & Sons, to some of the workers’ chagrin, to request some reinforced steel in their 4 and a half inch heels. Charlie seems just the man for the job. “The sex is in the heel,” after all. Together, Lola and Charlie form an unstoppable partnership and teach each other and their friends about love, acceptance, and learning to “just be who you wanna be.”

Based on the 2005 film of the same name (starring a young Chiwetel Ejiofor as Lola), the musical won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Musical and the 2016 Olivier Award in 2016 for the West End premiere. Broadway legend Jerry Mitchell directed and choreographed the show, with book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper. “The New York Times’s” Ben Brantley advises, “Try to resist if you must,” and you’ll leave the theater dancing with a warm heart and inspired mind. Everybody say yeah!

Appropriate for ages 10 and up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

A whole new world landed on Broadway in 2014, when the Tony Award-nominated Best Musical “Aladdin” flew into the New Amsterdam Theatre. Based on the 1992 Disney animated film of the same name, the musical follows the titular street urchin as he journeys to the Cave of Wonders, where he discovers a magical lamp that changes his life forever. Unleashing a friendly and funny Genie who will grant him three wishes, Aladdin transforms into royalty to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. The only thing standing in his way is the Sultan’s villainous Grand Vizier, Jafar, who will stop at nothing to steal the lamp and take the throne

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, “Aladdin” brings audiences on an enchanting adventure to the deserts of Agrabah, complete with high-flying carpet rides and a toe-tapping Genie that will have you wishing for more.

ALADDIN recommends that children be at least six years old to attend a performance of ALADDIN.

## What to watch for
The 337 costumes worn in “Aladdin” were all custom made by hand.

In the Genie’s musical number “Friend Like Me,” there are 1,428 Swarovski crystals on a pair of men’s pants.

James Monroe Iglehart, who originated the role of the Genie in the stage production, took home the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Jonathan Freeman, who voiced the villainous Jafar in the 1992 film, reprised his performance on stage in the original cast of the musical.

Don’t expect Aladdin’s monkey sidekick, Abu, to make an appearance. In the stage adaptation, Aladdin has a trio of friends named Omar, Babkak, and Kassim.

UPDATE: Matilda&nbsp;will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 2&nbsp;Dec. 2022.&nbsp;The Matilda film will also be available to stream worldwide on Netflix.&nbsp;Last year, it was announced that a <a href="/theatre-news/news/matthew-warchus-to-direct-new-matilda-film-adaptation">new film adaptation of </a><a href="/theatre-news/news/matthew-warchus-to-direct-new-matilda-film-adaptation">Matilda</a> was in the works.&nbsp;Further casting has been confirmed today, with casting for Matilda, Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey announced.In a tweet from <a href="https://twitter.com/BazBam/status/1349860639251046402" target="_blank">Daily Mail entertainment reporter Baz Bamigboye</a>, 11 year old Alisha Weir will play the title role. Born in Ireland, her theatre credits so far include regional productions of Annie, The Wizard of Oz and Oliver, as well as appearing in Dublin performances of Once.Emma Thompson will play Miss Trunchbull, a role which was previously assumed to be portrayed by Ralph Fiennes. Miss Trunchbull is a role typically played by males, but Matthew Warchus has confirmed the role is reconceived for the upcoming adaptation, and "now can be played by a woman."An Academy Award-winning actress, Thompson's delivered acclaimed performances in Howards End, Sense and Sensibility and Saving Mr. Banks. More recently, audiences have heard her sing in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast as Mrs. Potts and in concert productions of Sweeney Todd at the <a href="/theatres/london-coliseum">London Coliseum</a>.Lashana Lynch will play Miss Honey in Matilda, whose film credits include Captain Marvel and the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die.&nbsp;Further casting includes Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as&nbsp;Mr and Mrs Wormwood, with&nbsp;Sindhu Vee as Mrs Phelps.The cast of Matilda will include 200 children who make up the classmates at Crunchem Hall. What is Lorem Ipsum? 

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Why do we use it?
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Where does it come from?
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
